Company Information

Purves Philatelics is one of the UK’s premier dealers in stamps of the British Commonwealth. Established in 2001 the business has built an enviable reputation for service and quality and now supplies clients worldwide. The business is run primarily by Duncan Purves and Teresa Dobing with part time assistance from Chris, Duncan’s wife, when she is not teaching.

Our people

Duncan Purves

Duncan has had a life long passion for philately and has collected British Commonwealth stamps for well over 40 years now. A chartered accountant by profession he, together with help from Chris, set up C P Postal Auctions in 1990 and then Kentish Postal Auctions some years later. These two businesses, which were run on a part time basis, were sold in 1999 due to professional commitments but the stamps won in the end when Duncan was persuaded to make a life changing decision in early 2001. The rest, as they say, is history.

Teresa Dobing

Teresa began her working career as an auditor for Greater London Council, and was promoted several times to the position of Group Auditor, before becoming a full time mother of three. She returned to the work place in 2001 as a learning mentor in a local school before joining the business in 2005 as Office Administrator. Although not a collector herself Teresa has developed a very good knowledge of Commonwealth stamps and is the cheery and helpful voice on the end of the telephone. Often mistaken for Duncan’s wife she is, in fact, his sister in law.

Chris Purves

Chris is a full time teacher and holds a position of responsibility in a large Primary School. As a result she now only works on a part time basis during the school holidays but is just as enthusiastic as she was 20 years ago.

Our aim

Our aim has always been to create a stamp business with a difference; one where service and quality matter; where you can order in total confidence knowing that your order will be dealt with promptly and professionally and that the condition of the material you receive can always be relied upon.
